About Scott Wilkinson....
Scott Wilkinson began
playing music professionally in high school. It was during that time that he negotiated with his father
the opportunity to study voice, guitar and banjo in exchange for keeping his grades up and not getting too carried away with the idea of being a
professional musician.
He is a graduate of Albion College, where he studied both
biology and music. It was there he
found his passion for performance and composition. During the week he received more traditional classical
musical training. On the weekends he performed in local clubs and coffee
houses. It was in this setting that Scott began to develop his own musical
style, his ability to engage an audience and work with other musicians.
Thinking it was time to set
aside his musical career for a while, he began medical school in 1981. His passion, however, was reignited
when he met “the other” Scott Wilkinson.
They discovered they not only shared the same name, but a mutual
addiction to song writing and performing.
They quickly formed a duo, named “Scott Free”, and would write, perform,
record and travel together for the subsequent 20 years.
Most
recently, Scott has enjoyed collaborating with other talented musicians. This has included an emphasis in
contemporary worship as well as performing, writing, and recording. He has been an instrumental part of
forming and continuing the contemporary worship service at First United Methodist
Church of Birmingham. Most recently Scott has completed this new recording,
“Whatever It Takes”, produced by Michael King. This work is a collection of
original songs that have combined lyrical themes of community, spiritual
longing, family life and modern day living with an eclectic, sophisticated
musical style that appeals to a wide variety of listeners.
